9/11 Memorial

On our way down to the financial district, we wanted to stop and see the 9/11 memorial site.  This national memorial was a tribute to the 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site, Shanksville, Pa, and the Pentagon.

The Memorial's twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest man-made waterfalls in North America.  The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood.  The names of every person who died are inscribed into the bronze panels that surround each pool.

I was a little hesitant to take pictures and/or video any part of this "grave yard" memorial.  It was just such an unbelievable site in the middle of all the city skyscrapers.  Almost hard to fathom all the chaos that took place here over 10 years ago.

The Freedom Tower is currently being built to pay homage to the Twin Towers.
